Does The Galaxy A14 5G Come With A Charger? Read This Before Buying

Oct 09, 2023

Samsung's Galaxy A14 5G is the latest affordable smartphone from the South Korean tech giant, but does it come with a charger in the box?

Samsung's Galaxy A14 5G is an affordable smartphone, but does it come with a charger in the box? The Galaxy A14 5G is an upgrade over the Galaxy A13 5G that was launched in Dec. 2021 as Samsung's cheapest 5G smartphone. While the Galaxy A13 also had a 4G variant that was launched in early 2022, there's no indication that the A14 will follow suit. This makes sense, given the growing prevalence of 5G networks across the world.

The Galaxy A14 5G is a surprisingly capable device for its price, offering all the hardware and software features one can possibly ask for in this segment. However, in keeping with the recent trend, Samsung isn't including a charger in the retail box. The in-box charger has gone the way of the dodo for premium smartphones, but some manufacturers still include it with their entry-level and mid-range devices. Unfortunately, that's not the case for the Galaxy A14 5G, meaning owners of this device will have to either use an old charger or buy a new one separately.

The Galaxy A14 5G comes with an impressive 5,000mAh Li-Polymer battery that should last users more than a day with moderate to heavy usage. The device supports up to 15W wired charging, and users will need a charger with supported specs to take advantage of the full charging speed. There's no support for wireless charging, but that's to be expected at this price point. The device, however, ships with a USB-C charging cable, so users won't need to invest in an additional cable to charge their device.

It is worth noting that the Galaxy A13 5G also shipped without a charger, so the decision to not include the power brick with the new model doesn't come as much of a surprise. Samsung says that shipping smartphones without chargers is better for the environment, but what it doesn't say is that it's also better for its bottom line, as selling chargers separately is big business. Samsung's in-house chargers start at $14.99 for the base 25W model, meaning it will be an extra expense for people buying a Galaxy smartphone.

Apple was the first company that stopped shipping chargers with smartphones. The iPhone 12 series was the first to not include an in-box charger, and the tradition continued with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 lineups, despite protests from consumers. Samsung initially made fun of Apple for its decision to not bundle a charger with the iPhone 12, but soon started following the same trend. Other Android OEMs have also since joined the bandwagon and stopped shipping chargers with their high-end smartphones. Still, in many cases, affordable devices continue to get the in-box charger like old times, which is why Samsung's decision to not include a charger with its entry-level Galaxy A-series devices comes as a bit of a disappointment.
